What is Python?

No, this article is not about the snake Pyhton that we have heard of uptil now. It's about one of the most broadly used yet simple programming language which can used to program almost anything.

Python was developed by Guido Van Rossum at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in the Netherlands in the year 1985-1990 and it was first released in 1991.

It is an intepreted, object-oriented, high-level programming language for general-purpose programming and it's a relatively new programming language. At the beginning it was considered as a gap-filter language that is just used to write scripts to automate the repeated tasks or to rapidly prototype applications that will be implemented in one or more other languages.

But in the recent years, Python has emerged as a marvel in software development, infrastructure management and data analysis. It has now become a major language in the web application and the main driver behind the explosion in big data analytics and machine intelligence.

The succes rate of Python is quite high as it provides same advantages for experts as well as the beginners.

Some of the advantages of using Python are:

1. Python is a simple language and easy to learn

The number of features in the language is minimal requiring very less time and effort for anyone to write their's first program in Python.

The syntax used in Python is pretty simple and straightforward because nowdays developers spend more time thinking about the problem and very less time thinking about the language complexities or deciphering code left by others.

2. Python is one the broadly used language with support available

It is both popular and most widely used and is highest ranked in almost every programming language surveys. Python runs on almost every operating system and platform be it a major one or a minor one.

Python may not be the fastest language but the amount of verstality it provides covers almost every con of it.
